The Trek to Kutwal Lake

The journey to the lake begins from Sassi village near the Karakoram Highway. The trek leads you through:

How to Reach Kutwal Lake

Kutwal Lake is located in Haramosh Valley, in the Gilgit District of Gilgit-Baltistan. The journey involves a road trip followed by a scenic trek. Below are the routes from major nearby cities.

From Islamabad to Kutwal Lake

1. Islamabad → Gilgit (By Road or Air)

By Air:

·       Daily flights (weather-dependent) take 1 hour from Islamabad to Gilgit.

By Road:

·       Take the Karakoram Highway (KKH) towards Abbottabad → Mansehra → Besham → Dassu → Chilas → Gilgit.

·       Total travel time: 14–16 hours.

2. Gilgit → Sassi Village

·       From Gilgit, drive towards Skardu Road for about 40–50 km.

·       Reach Sassi village, the starting point of the Haramosh Valley trek.

·       Travel time: 1–1.5 hours.

3. Trek: Sassi → Iskere → Kutwal Lake

·       Duration: 5–7 hours of trekking, depending on pace.

·       Terrain: forested paths, streams, meadows, and gradual ascents.

From Gilgit to Kutwal Lake

This is the simplest access route.

1. Gilgit → Sassi Village

·       Take the Gilgit–Skardu Road.

·       Distance: ~50 km.

·       Travel time: 1–1.5 hours by jeep or car.

2. Trek from Sassi to Kutwal Lake

·       Route: Sassi → Iskere → Kutwal Village → Kutwal Lake.
